Makkina is a world renowned automotive design house with an outstanding reputation for delivering exceptional design across all brands and vehicle types — from heritage to cutting edge. Although they’ve been responsible for some of the most iconic vehicles ever produced, they’ve worked totally under the radar due to confidentiality agreements. To change all that and celebrate their 25th anniversary, they burst onto the scene by presenting their very own, unforgettable showcar. We like their style.
So exactly one hundred years after the Triumph name first appeared on a production car, Makkina unveiled their Triumph TR25, reimagining the legendary record-breaking ‘Jabbeke’ Triumph TR2, MVC575, 70 years after its land speed record. A celebration of the Great British Roadster, this stunning contemporary piece of cutting-edge automotive design became an immediate sensation, splashed on the cover of Autocar magazine and now sitting proudly alongside its original inspiration at the British Motor Museum.
Drop dead gorgeous — from sculpted form to ethereal colour and delicious UI, the TR25 is nothing short of breathtaking. We designed and developed a website to launch the company, the anniversary and the TR25, using the attributes of the showcar to link the components. We deliberately kept the website simple to allow the drawings and videos to shine, engaging the user with stunning filmatic colour in jet black and TR25 hues. (We were consulted about the interior colour for the vehicle, so choosing the colours for the site was a no brainer. Nothing like continuity.)
We built on the foundations we’d established in Makkina’s earliest days when we designed their quietly cool brand identity. Reflecting their thoughtful minimalism in powerful yet refined hand drawn letterforms, we introduced measured movement for a dynamic quality. Subtly embossing the logo in shiny black foil onto silky smooth stock with graceful die-cut curves, or die-cut on the side of the vehicle, it still works beautifully on both product and paper today.
The reveal took place at a magnificent launch party at Woods Quay with the great and the good of the automotive industry in attendance after the TR25 had been skillfully lowered onto the quay from the river. Makkina and Woods, two of Oro&Co’s long standing UK clients sharing an ethos of striving for perfection, the evening could not have been less than sensational. A deep source of pride for everyone involved in its production and a lasting joy for the delighted guests.
